Syed Bukhar Shah wins top slot in Peshawar Press Club polls

PESHAWAR – Syed Bukhar Shah of the Progressive Panel was elected the president of Peshawar Press Club while Zafar Iqbal representing the Democratic Panel became the secretary-general.

Shah polled 159 votes to defeat his closest rival Dr. Yousaf Ali of the Democratic Panel who secured 103 votes.

Iqbal got 127 votes as he edged Ammad Waheed (124) to take the slot of general-secretary.

Aneela Shaheen of the Democratic Panel with 135 votes became the first woman of the press club to be elected as vice president. She outvoted Faquir Hussain (106) who represented Progressive Panel.

The following are the results: Syed Bukhar Shah (president, 159 votes), Aneela Shaheen (vice president 135), Zafar Iqbal (general-secretary 187), Sibtain (joint secretary, 129), Jameel Mohmand (finance secretary, 117).

The Peshawar Press Club has 429 members.

Zulfikar Ali Shah headed the election committee with Said Alam Khan, Sultan Siddiqui, Shehzad Anjum and Bilal Ahmad as members.

Members of the governing body elected were: Nasir Hussain (159), Mahmood Jan Babar (137), Asif Nisar (133), Ehtisham Khan (132), Alamgir Khan (129), Riaz Daudzai (119), Ehtisham Toor (116), Kashifuddin (112), Umer Yasir (110), Shahzada Fahd (109).
